Memento Mori Gravestone Wings Necklace
If you've ever visited any of the old colonial era port towns of New England, you'll likely recognize this recurring motif in the old cemeteries. This design is called a "winged soul" or "death's head" which symbolizes the fleetingness of life and the soul soaring into the afterlife. This symbol and many others were carved in to the headstones of the more affluent populations during the 1700's.
This petite pendant is made from solid copper wings that have been given a black coat, and then a whitewash over that. It is then sealed with Renaissance Wax.
The pendant measures 1 3/4" wide and 1/2" tall, with a gunmetal grey 18" chain, finished with a lobster clasp closure.
