Silk Road Matte Chrysocolla Handstamped Sterling Silver Pendant
This one-of-a-kind piece was an adventure to create as well as being inspired by exotic middle Eastern adventures. It starts with an amazing cone shaped chrysocolla cabochon with a flat matte finish, reminiscent of sand. The cabochon shape reminds me of Moroccan tagines, thus the title "silk road". (See last photo if you have no idea what a tagine is - they're used to slow cook meals!) Fabricated entirely from 20 gauge sterling silver sheet, the circular back has been sawn out, sanded, and run thru a rolling mill with a textured plate that imparted a cool ethnic pattern to the back. 6 sterling tabs were cut out, stamped with an antique metal stamp from India, soldered to the front and then folded over to secure the stone. Additional texture was added to the front, and the Verdilune trademark and sterling silver hallmark stamps are on the back. The whole piece has been oxidized in liver of sulphur and polished to bring out highlights. 18" sterling silver rolo chain with lobster clasp closure.
