Surfite and Sterling Silver Pendant in Green & Orange
Part of a larger collection, this colorful pendant contains a multi-colored "stone" called Surfite, which is actually not a stone at all. Surfite is layered resin built up from the process of glassing surfboards. Google "surfite stone", and then for extra fun, google fordite, which is similar, but is made of layers of paint that has built up during the process of painting cars.
The stones in this collection are sunny and happy, and have hues of royal blue, turquoise blue, juicy orange, bright yellow, etc. This particular stone is predominantly bright green with an orange center. Set in a scalloped bezel, and accented beneath by a small square turquoise cabochon and a tiny faceted green onyx cabochon. Soldered to 22 gauge sterling silver sheet. Pendant dimensions are 2" tall and 5/8" wide. The entire piece is oxidized with liver of sulphur to give depth and then buffed to bring out highlights.
Hung on a 2.2mm sterling silver rolo chain, finished with a lobster clasp closure.
