Beautifully Broken Bird Earrings - Upcycled China in Sterling Silver
This pair of birdies is made from a section of broken floral china by stone cutter Sierra Stone Studios. She upcycles broken pottery and china by creating cabochons from the broken pieces. Jewelers like myself buy them to create unique, fun jewelry that promotes reusing materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
This settings for this pair are completely hand-fabricated by me in sterling silver. The birds are set in smooth bezels with hammered sterling wire bails. Cast forget-me-nots and faceted labradorite sit atop each bird. Handmade 18 gauge sterling silver earwires. Both pieces are oxidized with liver of sulphur and buffed and polished to bring out the highlights of the metal.
