Clearly Striped Surfite Pendant in Sterling Silver
The "stone" in this pendant is actually known as surfite, which is surfboard paint. During the process of "glassing" the surfaces if a surboard, there is runoff of paint. These layers harden between applications of different paint colors. Stone cutters then cut cabochons from this hardened material, and each unique specimen captures the different colors, stripes & whorls.
This particular specimen is predominantly clear, with a multicolor stripe running diagonally thru it. Set in a smooth sterling silver bezel, and backed with 21 gauge textured sterling silver sheet. Suspended from a 18" sterling silver rolo chain with lobster clasp closure. The entire piece is oxidized with liver of sulphur and buffed and polished to bring out the highlights of the metal.
