Fabulous Fordite Sterling Silver Pendant
This colorful, fun cabochon is made of a material called Fordite, also known as Detroit Agate. It's not an agate at all, though! The original material was created many years ago at the Ford Rouge Plant just outside of Detroit, Michigan. Layer upon layer, paint over-spray built up on metal racks that transported new car bodies through the paint shop, and into the oven, where each coat was baked hard. These cabochons are hard to find. Each one is different and the artistry is in the hands of the stone cutter.
This cab has swirls of bright red, Burgundy, dark blue, sky blue, metallic silver and white. Cut into a teardrop shape, it measures 28 x 24 x 4 mm. Set in a simple scalloped sterling bezel. Fine beaded sterling silver chain is 19" and finished with a lobster clasp. Leave a note I'd you'd prefer a shorter length.
