Striped Red & Yellow Rosarita Heart Pendant with Turquoise in Sterling Silver
This is a striking and fun specimen of Rosarita, carved into the shape of a heart by lapidarist Gary Wilson. It's set in a sterling silver smooth bezel on a double layer of recycled sterling silver sheet. Mixed with a crescent of turquoise and a tiny yellow Rosarita oval cabochon. The silver is hammered and textured for visual interest. Oxidized liver of sulphur & then sanded and polished to bring out the highlights of the silver. Hangs from a 22" sterling silver rolo chain , with sections of sterling disc chain added for an interesting texture. Finished with a lobster clasp closure.
What is Rosarita?
Rosarita is a by-product of gold smelting. Smelting gold is the process of extracting gold from an ore it is combined with. Essentially, when an ore that is gold-bearing gets heated to high temperatures, gold sinks down to the bottom and the non-metals solidify into boulders of red and orange. Red being Rosarita.
